Subject: Thank you from the GDIT Step Out Team!

I wanted to send you a note of sincere gratitude for your generosity in supporting the GDIT Step-Out Team to fight diabetes. With your support we managed to blow through our goal finishing with $2,793!!!!

Saturday's walk got reduced to 2 miles due to looming weather forecasts, but our turn out was great and I am happy to report there were no insulin related injuries.

Thank you,

What a coup...first Colin Powell, now this!

Alaska's largest newspaper endorses Obama

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Sunday after declaring Gov. Sarah Palin "too risky" to be one step away from the Oval Office.

"Like picking (Republican presidential candidate John) McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time," The Daily News said.

The newspaper said Obama "brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand."

The Daily News said since the economic crisis has emerged, McCain has "stumbled and fumbled badly" in dealing with it.

"Of the two candidates, Sen. Obama better understands the mortgage meltdown's root causes and has the judgment and intelligence to shape a solution, as well as the leadership to rally the country behind it," the paper said.

The Daily News said Palin has shown the country why she is a success as governor. But the paper said few would argue that Palin is truly ready to step into the job of being president despite her passion, charisma and strong work ethic.

"Gov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation," the paper said.

Streets are blocked...

because today is the Marine Corps Marathon. As much as I run, I don't think I'll ever attempt a full marathon. I'll stick with my 5k's and maybe a half-marathon in the future.

Oh...and Happy Birthday!

To my one and only brother, Aaron...it's hard to believe you're in the mid-20s nowadays. Hope you're having a great time in South Carolina!

Diabetes Walk Wrap-Up

Well, today was the "Step Out For Diabetes" walk, so I thought my donors would like a report on the event. First off, our team (General Dynamics Information Technology) had a goal of $2,000 raised, and we beat that by about $700, so thanks to Mom & Dad and Nana & Granddad for donating! I think we all know how close to home this hits, so it was honor for you all to come together and sponsor me (don't worry, I donated as well!) As for the walk itself, it kind of sucked realizing late last night that I didn't have a raincoat perse, so I actually drug one of military gortex jackets out of retirement for what was going to be a rainy morning. We got lucky though, because we didn't have any rain at all during the walk. We started out in front of the Capitol (which even with living here, is still an awesome sight to behold), then trecked our way around for 2 miles through the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood. Heck, I even say a pumpkin carved with Obama's logo along the way!

Of course, the rain did come today...but luckily not until I was safe and sound in my apartment. :)

3rd time

So I wore the Obama shirt for the 3rd time today (after work, of course). Needless to say, I keep getting compliments in person, and online. Of course, I get the sneers too...but hey, it's only fair! After all I did say something a few days ago about shaking my head outside McCain HQ.

It's here!

It's a tad small (since I'm so used to generic medium t-shirts being so baggy and such...but this thing is skin tight).

Needless to say, I will be rocking this as much as I can until election day. Speaking of which, I live a block or so away from McCain's national HQ...and I happened to walk by this morning while cooling down from my run. That was place sure was hopping...people outside and a ton of people on the phones inside. I just walked by and shook my head...

Warning: Passionate Rant Ahead

I posted this on a forum I frequent...was getting tired of some the ignorance I was seeing. I can respect for being for your chosen canidate, but when you base it on trivial ignorance such as what I state below...that's just lame:

----------------------------

Why his is name even an issue...it's 2000 freakin' 8 people! It kills me to see these ignorant people still say they don't trust the man because of his name.

"It means he's Muslim!"

Well, he's not! Heck, does it truly matter if he was anyways? This isn't 1607, where a bunch of puratinic folks came across on ships and ran the native people out. We are truly a melting pot...and have been for quite awhile. I think deep down, the same people say it isn't about race, it truly is in the back of their minds. And that's a damn shame...

That being said, I'm glad to see most of you guys involved in these heated discussions....now back up your words with a vote. I'm sure you can find time during the 12 hours or so the polls are open on the 4th. Then I'll respect you, if you're not going to vote you can just keep your mouth shut...

Yay!

After quite a bit of studying, I rocked my "Security +" exam today...which now gives me my second IT certification in less than a month! Man, I love my company...having these 2 babies adds some nice bullets to the old resume if should have to use it again.

Nothing else new, except I ventured deep into Maryland today after my exam, to pick up items for my Halloween costume (it's going to be awesome).

Oh, and the Saints beat the Raiders 34-3...and I was able to see some the game! At a Bailey's no less (those who know me from my second stint in Hampton Roads will get this). Watched the Skins game while I was at it...with some cool company...though it's too bad Virginia still hasn't stopped smoking indoors yet. :P

Finally, here's a sign I'm getting older. Toys R Us is doing it's annual "buy 2 get 1 free" video game sale, I've pretty much participated in this every year going way back to 2001 when they were still in cahoots with Amazon.com. This year, not so much...in fact...I think I'm going to sell off some more of my hardware. Don't worry though, the Playstation 3 and yes, even the Wii are staying for now.

So...

My DC friends will like this....after a 2 weekend break, I do plan on going out at least once this weekend. I was motivated by the fact that Bobby actually called me to go out tonight (which I quickly told him no), but will get with him tomorrow night. Reason being, he's been pretty scarce since moving out of Crystal City and bringing his girlfriend up from Houston. I can't have too many drinks though...because as Homer Simpson would say, "beer kills brain cells", since I will be finally taking my Security + exam on Monday morning (yes, on a day off no less).

Oh, the GOP is so sad resorting to the false truths mud-slinging, as our man Obama tries to run a respectable campaign. :P

Can I vote yet?

Also, I think I've grown to hate the cooler seasons. With my body's build, I've always been one to get cold easy. So as it hits the low 50's here @ night, I anxiously await my building's decision to turn on my heat!

Oh, and a big, big thank you to my parents and my nana/granddad for donating to my diabetes walk! I actually just threw a donation of my own to this very worthwhile (and way-too-close-to-home) cause.
