Saints vs Ravens

Well, made it out to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore to see the Saints lose to the Ravens. Great game despite the outcome, and Baltimore fans are cool...so here we go:

Who Dat on Halloween

This is why I must make it to a game in the Superdome. Consider it very high on the bucket list...all I know is even watching the game on TV last night, you could hear (and see) the power of the 12th man. Great job Who Dat Nation!

Friday, October 29, 2010

Bye bye Sony, hello:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+46%22+Class+/+1080p+/+120Hz+/+LED-LCD+HDTV/9784657.p?id=1218173778085&skuId=9784657&st=un46c6300sf&cp=1&lp=1

Well, I've been having issue as of late with my Sony LCD. Audio and video had been cutting in and out during games and movies on my PS3...troubleshot the heck out of it and narrowed it down to the 2 lone HDMI ports on the thing going bad. So, with pay raise comes a bit more play money...hence the new baby in the link.

Pros:
6 more inches
Thin as heck!
Uses half the power my current TV does
More HDMI ports
4,000,000x1 contrast ratio (compared to like 4,000 for the current one)
and better Hz

Cons:
None yet...except the fact I got pretty forced into this situation sooner than I planned.
Can't sell TV*

*Can't sell it because I feel HDMI would be a huge selling point on a 1080P TV. That being said Best Buy got my money for 3 reasons:
1. Model about 200-300 cheaper than anywhere else
2. Free delivery (which really helps out in my living enviroment)
3. Free recycling of the old one (and no worrying about having to sell a gimped TV)
4. 36 months no interest!

Now I just have to wait patiently until Thursday. :D

Long promised photos

I know I update this thing less and less lately, but such is the nature of my life...too busy to really mess with this thing! That being said, here's some of my shots from my first trip to Las Vegas last month for my old Korea roommate's 30th birthday. We had a suite at the MGM Grand...and as for lack of photos, that would be because I never carried my camera so most of these shots were acquired from others in the group...only the driving shots are from my cell phone. Enjoy!

Las Vegas 2010

Also of note is my running of the 2010 DC Red Dress Run. Google the term "hashing" and you'll understand a bit more. This was this past Saturday, and is now officially in the top 5 days/nights I've ever had here in DC!

Both events were harmless...but VERY fun. :D

My first 10K results

Clarendon Day 10K

Arlington, VA

Ran 9/25/2010

Place: 648 out of 1188
Time: 59:14
Mile Pace: 9:32

Not the best results ever (that mile pace is at least a minute slower than my normal 3 mile-ish runs). Nevertheless, I finally did one, and am ready to tackle another one...next year! haha

A pick me up...

So, here I am getting love from Pacers Running Stores again:

"Brian Sell coming to Pacers & Crystal City Twilighter. Best Sell Moustache will receive a ridiculous amount of Brooks gear. You have one month - start growing. This one has Mikey Lynch all over it."

I love the fact my name is getting called out for all of Facebook to see. Now if you Google the guy you can see my dillemma...I can't actually connect my facial hair like he has it connecting on both sides from the 'stache to the chin. I may try though. lol

Rest in Peace girl. :(

Man it seems just like yesterday that I received the news about our dearly departed Puma (even though it's almost been 3 years since he has passed). And now comes word from the family that they had to put Misty down. Now granted I wasn't always the closest to her, since she arrived the year I graduated High School...but a family pet is such much more than the word "pet", they are a unconditionally loving member of the family. Rest in peace dear girl, I will dearly miss going to look for you (or her even greeting me), every time I make it back down to Yorktown to visit the family. I'm so grateful I was able to kiss the top of your head one final time last month. :(

You shoulda known...

...that once I joined Twitter again, that updates to the blog would be infrequent yet again.

Anyways, ran the Race for the Rainforest 5K today here in good old Arlington. Temperature @ race time was a very humid 80 degrees...but I still rocked it, but not with the best time ever. Massive hill near the start/finish slowed me down a bit, not to mention the aforementioned heat. Next on the dockett, 3 races in July!

Run for the Gulf 5K | Arlington, Virginia 22201 | Friday, July 16, 2010 @ 7:30 PM

My favorite running store just organized this event for next month. This is too perfect, combine my passion for running with my love for my "second hometown", the gulf coast. Needless to say I'm probably one of the first signed up since I registered as soon as I saw the store post the event Facebook!

That Chick-fil-a 5K...again

That thing had some unexpected bonuses. From an email almost immediately finishing the race that detailed everything from the weather, my times, and my place in relation to overall standings and age/gender. Today they went ahead and sent me this link of my finish. Enjoy!

I'd like to point out that I actually finished in 25:42...even though the clock says 26 minutes...

AOL 5K Results

This was such a nice race on AOL's campus near Dulles airport...perfect weather and not too crowded. Had a couple hills that through me for a loop, but with uphill battles also comes downhill coasting! ;) I found the fact they announced your name and where you are from as you crossed the finish, to be a nice touch as well. Will definitely look into this one again next year! So on to the subject matter:

Twitter already paid off

Well, just a quick note from the last of the 5K Fridays. I won't get much into my results; but it wasn't as good as last week, that's for sure. Anyways, that is not the point of this entry. You see, the local Business group for Crystal City (who ran the races), saw all my posting about the races on Facebook and Twitter. On the aforementioned Twitter I had received a direct message from the group telling me to ask for a certain person to get free beer tix at the after party. It was really cool going to the party with that secret and scoring the tix...at which I proceeded to cool down with some free Heineken. Yum.

Man do I love living here!:

PS Now to find a 5K sooner than the one I'm signed up for next month!

Caps lost...but here's new photos!

Lousy Montreal and their beast of a goalie. *sigh* By the way, I was participating in the fine tradition of the NHL playoff beard. You keep it growing until your team wins the Stanley Cup or gets knocked out. :P

Your help is needed

So, I'd like to branch out my 5Ks a bit to include areas in Virginia where my family could come support me or even join me! So, just asking if you keep your eyes/ears open for 5Ks in your area that are on Saturday or Sundays. Thanks much! :)

Alright...time to use the luck of my favorite sports team ever (the Saints) winning the Super Bowl this year to my second favorite DC sports team (behind DC United)...

The NHL's Capitals!

They are the number one seed in the East and a favorite to win the Stanley Cup this year. First up is the first game tonight in a series against the Montreal Canadiens. Let's go CAPS!!!!

The month of races continues

Have yet another 5k Friday this week along with that 5K in Loudon County on Sunday morning. That morning will equal waking up super early to drive the 30-40 miles right past Leesburg. Although one recently discovered snag with that one, being that I'm not allowed to wear headphones! Grrr...that will make the race even longer than they feel sometimes. Nevertheless, I may try and wear my iPod sans the phones so I can still track my miles.

Oh, and I've been a bit of a celebrity on my apartment building's blog as of late. Here's the latest quote:

"Staying fit in Crystal City: 5K Fridays (Mikey runs them, so let him know on Facebook if you run them too) til the end of April...."

Yay! :) Oh, and before you ask, no responses. :P

Latest 5K Results

Well, it was chillier and a bit more windy for this this 5K Friday...and I ran the race pretty well. Except for the fact one of my shoelaces loosened up around mile 2! Grrrr...nevertheless, this weeks time was better than last week. Check for yourself:

Last week's time is first, then this week's. If it weren't for my lace pit-stop I woulda been under 25 min, Grrrrr

Michael Lynch 31 M Arlington VA 25:17 25:03

Side note, I need to recalibrate my Nike+ sensor since it has measured the last two 5k's @ 2.4 miles when it should be 3.1. Off to a local High School track to do such a thing tomorrow!

Running...for an iPad

By popular demand, here are the results from the 4/2/10 edition of the 5K Fridays:

330 place out of 934
25:30 total time
8:13 /mile pace

I hope to only improve on these times as the month goes on...oh and gotta love my bib number:

And now, onto the iPad...I must say I love this thing. I already owned mini versions of this thing (iPhone/iPod Touch)...but there's just something about this sucker that is special. Holding it on my couch and browsing the net and reading books makes me feel like it's Star Trek or something. Apple strikes gold yet again!

Thursday, April 1, 2010

The fun starts tomorrow!

Well, after a day cooped up inside for work, I will come home, relax...

...then proceed to kick some ass @ the 1st of 5 5K Fridays here in Crystal City! I can't wait....the weather is going to be so perfect!

5K Update

Well, I know I just posted about the 5k, below...but I have just registered for another 5K. So as of right now I'll be running 6 5K races in April (not counting the one below)! Methinks I'll be retiring the current running shoes a bit early at the end of April!

Anyways, I signed up a 5K that benefits the Loudon County Battered Womens' Shelter. Thing is I'll have to drive over 40 miles just for the race! A little past Leesburg and practically right next to West Virginia!

http://www.runfortheshelter.org/

I will admit one big reason I signed up for this one (since I hadn't heard about it otherwise), and that was I was searching to see if Volkswagen America was sponsoring any races in the area (since their HQ is in Herndon)...and lo and behold I found this.

Bonus:
Technical Tee for the race (sure to have VW on it)!

Negative:
No headphone use...grr...that will the make the race a bit more grueling/long for me!

Oh well, here's to 30+ kilometers next month!

Possible 5K

So, I'm about to start the month of a 5K every Friday evening in my neighborhood. I already to plan to run all 5...but have come across this race which would be on a Sunday following the last Friday 5K. I normally don't like to run races so close together; but I think I may an exception for this one:

Race for Hope - Fight Against Brain Tumors
link

That being said, I may try to actually raise a bit of money in addition to my registration fee. I'll be sure to keep you posted...and if anyone wants to come cheer me along in DC that Sunday, that would just be bonus! :)

MLS season kicks off

So, DC United kicked off it's season tonight and the club had an official viewing party (since the game was in Kansas City), at a bar in DC (very close to the White House no less). I decided to roll solo after not finding anyone to go with me...and proceeded to win a raffle @ halftime! I actually won an autographed mini soccer ball! Oh, and got a free United beer cozy when I had entered the raffle. Very cool...and even better that I actually scored a seat @ the bar!

That being said, we got spanked 4 to freakin' 0 by KC!

Blah...

PS...way to go West Virginia!

New rubber for the road

It's amazing how fast I've gone through shoes since I really kicked my running into high gear a little over 3 years ago. Well, I already foresee needing some a new pair by late spring, and had been lusting over some new technology Nike has put out within the last few months...just didn't want to spend the $100 the shoes retail for. So I did tons of scouring on the 'net trying to find a good deal...and lo behold I scored the shoes locally! I actually wanted to buy them from the local running store that organizes the races I run...but they are out and claimed these things are on national backorder. Long story short...went to Sports Authority with a $25 coupon on hand...and found some marked down to $79...you do the math!

So here it is...after my many 5Ks, I'm finally going to leave my little 3 mile comfort zone and tack another mile on it. Mikey is ready to celebrate St. Patty's Day by killing himself on the hill of north Arlington:

No matter what, I do end up with a killer tech tee outta the deal:

Introducing Who Dat Corner

Well, I finally received all of my Saints "decor" today. That being said, there is now a corner of my apartment officially devoted to the the New Orleans Saints. Enjoy the start of it:

Sunday, February 28, 2010

I always get this feeling every 2 years...

So the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver are over. Even though I didn't get to see all the events due to not having cable this go around...I loved these games as much as the last. Although, I'm still sad the men didn't get hockey gold, that was a damn good game! Oh well, a little more than 2 years until London!

As for my personal event...I ran my first 5K of the year today. Not the best finishing time...but I did a lot better than I thought I would. Especially since I don't run as much in the winter months.

Out of 1314 finishers I was 573 with a time just short of 30 minutes. This time will only get better as the year progresses, I promise! :)

A blurb from the 5k

I was perusing the site for the delayed Valentine's Day 5K I will be running this weekend and came across this:

When you finish the race, you will receive a pre-loaded gift card; ranging in value from $3 to $30 to redeem at Champps Pentagon Row (card values are randomly assigned). For the single guy who nabs a lucky $30 gift card, here’s your chance to buy the hot girl you spied at mile 2 that morning a mimosa! Your wingman only has $3 on his card? Well, he’ll still be able to get something to wet his whistle.

Hmmm...I always see quite a few cute women out there during these races. ;)

Woot...the men's team just beat Canada @ the Olympics 5-3!!!

Monday, February 15, 2010

Somebody stop me!

Well, now that it's been a week since the best team in the NFL won the Super Bowl, here's the tally I've what I bought so far.

1. Drew Brees Premier White Super Bowl Jersey
2. Saints book from NOLA newspaper, The Times Picayune
3. Glossy reprints of front page from NFC and Super Bowl editions of above paper
4. SB Champions T-Shirt
5. Saints SB Champs Dog Tag/Bottle Opener Keychain
6. Saints SB Champs Tankard and shot gloss set
7. Misc issues of Sports Illustrated

I think I'm done, until the Blu-Ray/DVDs come out. haha

Who Dat DC

I've been meaning to start something like this for a long time. Lets just say a snow day from work will kind of force one to get around to things they have been putting off. It's just a group on Facebook for now, but I have started a group for all the Saints fans in the D.C. area to get to know each other. Hopefully I can get enough followers so that I can get groups meetings set up for next season's Saints games. Anyways, I wanted to show off the picture I made for it:

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Lets play a game..

So, there is this little fad on Facebook now where you find a celebrity that looks like you and post their picture instead of your own. I've gotten this guy a lot...Kerr Smith. What do you think?

Saints & nail clippers

So yeah, I'm so glad I had the foresight to trim my fingernails before the NFC Championship game. If not, I would of been back to the Mikey of 20 years ago who used to chew on his nails. That game was crazy, and Garrett Hartley (Saints kicker) is the hero of New Orleans! I'm so stoked right now, that I can't even go to sleep and I have to work in the AM! Saints are off to their first Super Bowl ever

WHO DAT!!!

Saints...

Alright Saints...it's time to take the NFC title and book your trip to Miami for your first Super Bowl ever...Who Dat!!!!

I hate NBC

You're lucky that the local affiliate is my preferred news source and that the Olympics are coming, otherwise I'll never watch you again (minus the occasional Jimmy Fallon episode).

Bye Conan...I hope you make it back to TV in September!

Haven't felt this way since my first car....

Which kind of tells you something. For one, I kept the previous GTI for almost 4 years. That being a new record for me! Anyways, my old baby has finally shown up on the dealer's website. I like the blurb on the bottom

"This car was driven by one of our loyal customers on a lease -- he just purchased a new 2010 GTI. Contact us for more information on this GTI."

Loyal, being that I got my new baby from the place I was going for service ever since I moved up here.

I'm urging anyone that can, to step up and donate even the littlest amount to the Haiti relief effort. The absolute worst thing that can happen to a country that has been through some much in the last 20 years, has happened. I just donated to the Red Cross:

Ribbit ya'll!

So, just came back from seeing "The Princess & The Frog". I must say, I was not let down...it's great to see some hand drawn animation in the theaters. Which is especially true since we had to sit through what seemed like 5 generic CGI movie previews (minus the sure to be awesome Toy Story 3, of course). Disney animation + a story based in New Orleans = win. :)

Monday, January 4, 2010

First of the year!

Needless to say it won't be my fastest 5K ever (since I don't run as much in the winter months); but just signed up for my first 5K of the year!

http://www.lovetherun5k.com/

It's Two Thousand Ten

Time sure does fly as one gets older. Heck, I still feel like I'm only halfway through 2009! That being said, hopefully this year will see me start to work on those school goals...or at least very close to starting it full time. That being said, the new year has me catching up on my movies...the first being "Sherlock Holmes". Just saw that the other day and loved it...Robert Downey Jr. can do no wrong lately. Next on the list is "The Princess and the Frog" on Wednesday...gotta support Disney doing hand drawn animation again!
