1st snow of 2009

So I heard some people in another part of Virginia are jealous...so here's a pic as promised. I think we ended up with about 3 inches in Arlington. A lot more in the western and norther suburbs though.

Great Stuff

Remember when I told you guys at the end of last year about the Child's Play charity? Well, I received an awesome piece mail from Roanoke, VA recently. I've scanned it if you'd like to take a look!

Inauguration Day 2009!

The day has finally arrived...and I couldn't be more prouder of our country! The atmosphere in the DC area has been just electric these past few days, culminating with today's main event. Unfortunately, I was not able to partake in the parade...the organizers pretty much said you had to make a choice...and I think I chose right.

I can tell you that if you don't like crowds, you would not have liked this day at all. Anyways, I started off the morning trying to get on the Metrorail...and my worst fears came true. The trains were already packed by the time they pulled into my station...and I'm talking packed! While staring at the aforementioned train I was lucky enough to hear the station manager say there were shuttles above ground to take one to downtown...which ended up being an awesome deal. For one, it was a free ride, wasn't too packed, and they dropped us off right in front of the Holocaust Museum, which is right near the Mall. This leads into the worst part of the day and that was just trying to get through the initial crowd of people onto my viewing spot. That being said, it's amazing how friendly people were with all the crowding and the bumping going around.

I can tell you that I will never forget this day as long as I live, I'm so thankful for living where I do and the ability to be a part of this historic moment. The energy was insane...it was awesome to get in on the cheers of "Obama, Obama!" and clapping with all my fellow American citizens. I felt myself overcome with emotion on quite a few occassions, mostly just by throwing a fist in the air and screaming my head off. No doubt, I will be looking for a DVD of today's events to keep for posterity and to remind me where I was on cold, brisk, yet sunny, morning of January 20th, 2009.

Inauguration of President Obama

Needless to say I walked home...which I hadn't done yet...it's insane how close I actually live to this stuff. Only about 3 miles!

Another Sad Day

http://www.circuitcity.com/closed.html

We all knew it was coming, but I thought they'd be able to pull out of it...too bad we are stuck in this crappy economy.

R.I.P. Circuit City...a fine Virginia company. :(

Just had to say...

...living in the DC area during this historic time is awesome. The energy in the area is phenomenal...you can just feel it walking around public. I so can't wait for Tuesday!

Money in the bank

Well, after much talk, I finally did it today. I zoomed over to the local Comcast office and turned my cable box in. I'm officially no longer a cable TV subscriber...although I'll still have their internet service. Anyways, I'm able to get 1080i broadcast HDTV in my apartment courtesy of this nice flat antenna I bought late last year. Although the internet rate went up quite a bit since I no longer have the TV option...but I'll still save $50/month this way. No sense paying for something I hardly ever watched.

Sickness update: the stomach flu is gone, but the cough still lingers. All told, there were about 3-4 days last week were I hardly ate anything...and I've had people say it actually looks like I lost some weight...just what I need, right? LOL Needless to say the appetite is back though, especially after running yesterday for the first time in 2009. :D

Not a 100%

Well, you think that one being sick for almost a week would give one plenty of time to blog...but it hasn't. I woke up feeling kinda crappy last Sunday.... went to work Monday (feeling horrible), then proceeded to take the next 2.5 days off. Now here it is Saturday night...and I still only feel like 90% of my normal self. The best I can surmise is that I came down with what is commonly called the stomach flu. Heck...I can count the number of actual meals I've eaten this week with less than 2 hands!

Anyways, not much going on here...enjoying playoff football and rooting for my 3rd favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens, to get to the big game. Also was happy to see Carolina go down today (since they beat my Saints twice this season).

Hopefully I'll be good to do something tomorrow...the GTI hasn't moved since I took Dan and his friend to the airport last Sunday!

Yay!

"Saints QB Drew Brees is the Associated Press' Offensive Player of Year"

Way to go Drew!!!

Oh, and New Years went well...although that flu that I thought I dodged a month ago reared it's ugly head on Sunday (luckily as company was leaving). It got so bad, that I had to skip work today. Yucko.
