Company Holiday Party
So I ventured out on my own last night over to Chantilly, VA for my division of General Dynamic's Holiday Party. The first thing that I thought was strange was upon getting to the hotel was that we were directed to park up the road (at the company HQ no less)...so I was already thinking there must be a ton of people here. Upon parking the car I noticed the company hired out swanky tour buses to take us to and from the hotel.
Westfields Marriott
Can you say "wow" (after checking the link to the hotel above)! Color me impressed, a full service party with hors d'oeuvres always coming around via waiters/waitresses and multiple bars (we each received tickets for 2 drinks, and water/juice/soda was unlimited). Casino rooms where one took fake money that was handed to us to try to get more raffle tickets, free portraits, full course dinner, and even rooms set up with Wii's and XBox's!
Luckily, I met up with a few coworkers and hung out with them most of the night. Alas, this one event I should have tried to bring a date to, because there was nothing but couples there...oh well, live and learn. That being said, I didn't stay all the way until til midnight, and left a tad bit early...had to beat the freezing rain that was forecast for the overnight hours. To think, it was all free and the only thing it truly cost me was the gas to drive out the 20 or so miles to and from Chantilly.
PS. Of course, this extravagance makes me think how much our government overpays for contracts...but oh well...I'm one of the dirty ones, so I shouldn't complain!

Oh so bad...but oh so good:
Saw this on Yahoo! in a post about worst food at the mall. I've been doing the double orange chicken thing lately too!
WORST CHINESE MEAL
Panda Express
Orange Chicken
500 calories
27 g fat (5.5 g saturated, 1 g trans)
42 g carbs
810 mg sodium
FAT EQUIVALENT: 9 strips of Oscar Mayer Bacon!
Compared to other traditional Chinese meals (think multi-serving takeout boxes of carb-loaded lo mein), 500 calories doesn’t seem so bad. But consider the source—one small serving of Panda Express orange chicken usually comes with a second entrĂ©e (add another 300-400 calories) and a side of rice (add 450 calories if you choose the fried variety, 380 for the steamed). Make it a double serving of orange chicken and a side of fried rice and you’ve just consumed 75 percent of your day’s calories in one moment of weakness.

Coolio
Well, I had the luncheon today. It was pretty cool...even if it was a buffet-like place...but hey, free food while on the clock is always good right! Anyways, I actually won a door prize! I won a blue iPod Shuffle 1GB and an $10 iTunes gift card. Pretty cool...now I just need to get rid of the silver one I wasn't even using anymore. LOL

Ugh...
Man...I'm getting old. I've been nursing a sore neck since waking up Sunday morning. I blame those Gel pillows I bought at Target only a few months ago, which are already pretty damn flat. So I bought some nice firm ones...at a place I'd never thought I step foot in without my mom, and that would be TJ Maxx!
In other news, I'm still loving my current company, for one they gave us these very nice Cross ink pens, then we have a free luncheon tomorrow...and then this weekend I will we be going stag to our company holiday party at a Marriott...all the way in Chantilly. I wasn't going to go to the latter; but decided to be adventurous and check it out. Oh, and there's a good chance I may actually get a bonus! Haven't seen something like that since my Food Lion days. :D
Hard to believe Christmas is next week!? I hardly notice its impending arrival except when I try to brave D.C. retail establishments...yikes, what recession? haha

Splitting Hairs
So yeah, the big dilemma of growing out my hair has been the fact I'm so used to having it short-ish and within Air Force regs. Needless to say that isn't an issue anymore...and now that it has been at least 2 months since I last got it cut, the new dilemma is to cut what part. Some say trim the sides...get it touched up...etc. Who knows...all I know is I actually kind of enjoyed the below experiment:

New stuff
Thought I'd share a pic of a recent acquisition from Crystal City...and an update on what my shaggy hair looks like. It's taking a lot of fight to resist the urge to hit up the barber. Especially since the hair is starting to curl in places...like in one random corner on the front! (It's done up in this photo BTW.)
Oh, and like my new sweater? I can so tell I'm getting older though, I never used to own any sweaters!

Since my rent went up with the new lease...
...it would be nice to save a little extra money a month. That being said, I picked up an over-the-air antenna for my TV. I then let my awesome Sony TV search for HD channels and it found at least 20 crystal clear ones (to include SD broadcasts). The quality is just as good as my cable! So yeah, gonna cancel cable TV service with Comcast and just keep their internet...which will probably save me at least $50/month. Thank you Circuit City for actually carrying an antenna like this. Oh, and the antenna is not even some rabbit ear thing...it's actually a flat black plastic piece that is less than an inch thick.
woot!
woot!

Tis the season...
I'm sure some of my readers know of the web comic, Penny Arcade. If you've ever perused through their archives you wouldn't think it; but these guys rock. For you see, every year around the holidays for what seems at least the last 5 years they run a charity called "Child's Play". Basically they let children's hospitals all around the world set up wish lists for items on Amazon.com. It started off as just video games (hence the name), but now the hospitals will ask for books, toys, movies, etc. Anyways, I've always watched it but never actually donated anything...until now. I decided I should spread my good fortune onto others, so I bought 3 things for the Carillion Medical Center for Children in Roanoke, VA. No games though, I actually bought them 2 DVDs...one being my favorite movie of the year, Wall*E...and the other item being an Espanol book of "Where the Wild Things are".
I highly suggest, if you have the means, to donate a little something...these guys ask for the cheapest books all the way to an XBox for the kids to play with as they try to get better.
